Для каждого слова и всех его значений приведены грамматические пометы, указывающие, как правильно использовать слово в предложении.

Дана информация по частотности слов - часто используемые слова отмечены в словаре специальным образом.

Для отображения фонетической транскрипции и разделения слов на слоги в словарных статьях используются символы Юникода. Roger's II: The New Thesaurus, Third Edition, represents a significant improvement in thesaurus making. The lexicographic staff of Houghton Mifflin Company, publishers of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition, has designed Rogers II to provide rapid access to synonyms, facilitating the choice of appropriate words to express thoughts.

All entries are arranged in alphabetical order and are identified by part of speech. A definition precedes each list of synonyms, and each list is complete in itself. Synonyms with special applications are listed at the end of each synonym list and are labeled to provide usage guidance.

Rogefs II is a source of appropriate words to express thoughts or ideas, guiding the user away from the common pitfall of selecting an unsuitable word. At times, however, one does not want only a synonym, and to provide the user with related words and words of opposite meaning to choose from, Rogefs II contains a Category Index. Each synonym group closes with one or more cross-references to this Index. The Index then refers the user to related synonym groups, thus increasing one's choice of words substantially.

This thesaurus represents yet another major departure from traditional preparation of thesauruses. Every synonym and definition has been compared with the corresponding entry in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition, ensuring that the information in the Thesaurus is accurate and up to date. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is a dictionary published by the Oxford University Press (OUP), and is the most successful dictionary of the English language, (not to be confused with the one-volume Oxford Dictionary of English, formerly New Oxford Dictionary of English, of 1998.) As of 30 November 2005 OED included about 301,100 main entries, comprising more than 350 million printed characters. The policy of the OED is to attempt recording a word's most known uses and variants in all varieties of English, worldwide, past, and present; per the 1933 Preface: The aim of this Dictionary is to present in alphabetical series the words that have formed the English vocabulary from the time of the earliest records [ca. A.D. 740] down to the present day, with all the relevant facts concerning their form, sense-history, pronunciation, and etymology. It embraces not only the standard language of literature and conversation, whether current at the moment, or obsolete, or archaic, but also the main technical vocabulary, and a large measure of dialectal usage and slang.

PS Это самый объемный на сегодняшний день академический словарь английского языка. Для иностранцев, изучающих английский на начальном этапе он не подойдет. Даже для продвинутых пользователей он будет интересен лишь людям с филологическим складом ума. Всем остальным лучше всего пользоваться Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, который пока не существует в Lingvo версии, но наши умельцы обещают скоро закончить компиляцию этого файла. Впрочем, его конкуренты ( Collins Cobuild и Longman dictionary of contemporary english ничем не хуже)

Русско-английский словарь пословиц и поговорок Маргулиса

This dictionary contains 2,375 Russian sayings and proverbs and their English counterparts. Variants of each saying are included, and careful attention is given to the differences in British and American versions. For example, the Russian saying that is interpreted as "Children behave in a childish way, and they cannot be expected to act like grown-up people," is first given in Russian (in the Cyrillic alphabet) and then in English, and is then followed by the nearest English-language equivalent sayings in Britain and the United States: "Young colts will canter" (British) and "Boys will be boys" (American). The proverbs and sayings are arranged alphabetically by the first Russian word (in the Cyrillic alphabet) and are cross-referenced so the reader can find analogous Russian versions of English sayings. There is a keyword index for each language (one in English, one in Russian in the Cyrillic alphabet), which allows the reader to find a proverb or a saying without knowing the first word. Proverbs and sayings are current and include those popular in both spoken Russian and literature. The prefatory matter is in both English and Russian, for readers who have a command of either language.
